Goodbye, Winter Break

Image
Until next year, Winter Break! You will be missed.    Are you like me and not heading back into the classroom until tomorrow (January 10th)? Or have you already been back a week? We were in school all the way until December 22nd and there was even Professional Development on December 23rd! This break was well deserved, but I know there are many teachers out there that did not get this long of a break, and for you I hope your coffee has been strong and your patience stronger.  My winter break has been amazing. It was restful yet productive. Exciting with just the right amount of laziness needed. I successfully avoided anything and everything work related until Saturday, which was so so good for me. If you avoided work during break thats great! If you didn't and you felt like you needed to work during the break, that's great too.  Coming off of a break and getting back into the swing of things is challenging for me. I struggle with anxiety, (which is not something I'm ...

Hello 2022!!

Well hello my sweet, sweet friends, and happy New Year!  I'm a very goal oriented person. In fact, I find it difficult to find my purpose if there isn't a goal driving me. In the classroom, that is fantastic, and something I try to inspire upon my students. In life outside of the classroom...it has its ups and downs, but more about that later.  I'm a firm believer in the power of choice, especially in the classroom. It gives students a voice and power over their own learning. I can sit there and analyze data and have goals for my students, which drives my instruction, but what drives their learning? Giving them the opportunity to set goals.   I like to have my students set goals at the beginning of the year, but I figured welcoming the new year is the perfect time to mention it here. I model this with them and set goals for myself too. We set 2 academic goals, 1 behavior goal, and 1 goal outside of school. I know setting a goal for outside of the classroom in the classroo...

Welcome to Aly's Edventures!

Hello my sweet, sweet friends, and welcome to my little corner of the internet!  My name is Aly and I am a third grade teacher in the Bay Area, CA. I graduated in 2018 from San Jose State University (Go Spartans!) with a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies. I then went on to get my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Masters in Education in 2019--also from SJSU. (Go Spartans, again!)  I started my career in first grade and learned so much about myself, kids, and teaching in general that year. However, I found my perfect fit the following year in third grade. I LOVE third grade and hope to teach it for a long time. Elementary is definitely my jam, but I have so much respect for those of you that teach Middle School/High School. Maybe one day I'll end up there? I'm guessing most of you have made your way over here from Instagram (or you're related to me and following along for moral support), but if somehow you've randomly stumbled across me, welcome to my Edventures...
